Membership
If you are considering volunteering your time to better serve your community, Dansville Ambulance is a very good choice for you. We are a very busy Corps thus you will be able to learn the skills necessary and remain proficient in those skills. Nothing is worse than spending the time necessary to obtain a certification and not having the call volume to allow you to keep your skills at the high level that you possessed at the end of your training.

Membership is open to all people who are at least 18 years of age, possess a clean NYS driver's license, and have the desire to serve in a volunteer capacity. It is not necessary to have any emergency medical experience to join Dansville Ambulance, and it is not necessary to live in the Village of Dansville to join the Dansville Ambulance. Training will be provided to eligible candidates for the positions of Driver, Medic, and Advanced Life Support Technician.

DUTIES & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Driver
Aside from the obvious, the driver has many responsibilities while on a call for service. The driver organizes the equipment that will be needed on scene, and assists the EMT's and Paramedics in carrying out their duties, amongst many other things.

Medic
Dansville Ambulance is a New York State certified ambulance service, which means that at least 1 EMT must be available on all calls to render patient care and treatment. To become a Medic it is necessary to possess a New York State EMT certificate, or higher level of training, and possess a valid CPR card. These courses are taught right at our own ambulance base on Ossian Street in Dansville.

Paramedic
This is the highest level of training and achievement in the pre-hospital field of EMS. Paramedics are trained to give some drug therapy, start IV's, use heart monitors to help diagnose and treat patients in the field, and to provide many more skills that the basic EMT doesn't possess. In order to become a Paramedic, it is necessary to have a strong background in EMS by having been an EMT for at least 1 year, have the support of the agency that you work or volunteer for, have letters of introduction and reference, and the intense desire to reach the higher level of training the Paramedic is provided.
